Why You Should Keep Your Blood Sugar at Healthy Levels

September 5, 2016  :  by Rissa Gatdula-Lumontad

Your mouth waters and you are tempted to have a second helping of that scrumptious dessert. But think twice before you do!

The sugar and flour in that cake are refined carbohydrates. When you take refined carbohydrates, your body converts those into blood sugar. And when your body is unable to convert all of the blood sugar into energy, or if your body is unable to consume that energy (when you are lethargic, for one), then you will have high blood sugar levels.

If left uncontrolled, consistent high blood sugar levels can lead to degenerative diseases, like diabetes, cancer and heart diseases.

Low blood sugar levels, on the other hand, is also dangerous to your body. This may be caused by too much insulin, either automatically produced by your body to control your high blood level, or through insulin medication if you are diabetic. When your blood sugar is below the normal level, your brain releases a stress hormone called cortisol, which helps produce glucose, which brings up the blood sugar level. Cortisol can make you feel irritable, tired or light headed.

Thus, it is essential for us to maintain our blood sugar at healthy levels in order for us to function well, physically and mentally.

Taking prescribed medicines, for instance insulin for diabetes, together with exercise and a proper diet, helps patients control their blood sugar levels. Taking a natural supplement like CHARANTIA® Ampalaya Food Supplement has also been clinically proven to aid in keeping blood sugar at healthy levels.
